Learning New Things

Recently, I was introduced to the work of the Gulfsprite, Christy Sobolewski.  She posts some of the most amazing videos, full-length tutorials, for free, on youtube here.

I won’t say any more about her–because if I start talking about how great she is…this is going to be a very very long post…so go check her out and she if she inspires you half as much as she inspires me.

This piece was created, inspired by several of the Gulfsprite’s videos and tutorials.  It’s water-soluble graphite, watercolor and colored pencil on watercolor paper.  The background washed out completely with the scan…it’s actually shades of yellow…apparently not saturated enough yellow…

And please don’t judge the Gulfsprite based upon my work–her work is so incredible…I am still working on things.

But–for a first attempt at not using acrylics and Caran D’Ache Neocolor II crayons…this piece thrills me to NO end.
