So how does one Deepen one’s practice…

To begin, perhaps one should Listen…

Then, perhaps, one should … Contemplate…

This is Contemplation.

She is 6 inches by 12 inches mixed media piece on reclaimed canvas.

Reclaiming canvases that no longer thrill me and make me happy seems to be a big part of my process this year…

I have three more canvases along this line that were begun, but never finished…so she is part of a series…I can’t wait to see what the other three come to be.

  1. I love the idea of reclaiming the stuff that doesn’t thrill you. I work in watercolor, but really, one can add ink, acrylic, collage, or tear the thing up and use the strips to collage onto other things. Your Contemplation piece has so much rich color and texture!

    1. Thank you, Barbara…I had no idea how freeing reclaiming and working other work that no longer thrilled me could be until I just started doing it…I couldn’t just throw the old stuff out…but I didn’t want to keep it…and then I forget where I saw it first, but I read a blog post or something about someone taking their old work they weren’t happy with and turning it into a hand-bound art journal and my brain exploded…if you can do that with pages, you can do something like that with canvas…it has been completely liberating for me…
