These Are The Ravens In The Writing Desk Final

So, it is with a heavy sigh that I release These Are The Ravens In The Writing Desk, a blog that has been dedicated to providing creative prompts since December 2010.  The final year’s prompts have been gathered together and is ready for release.

The old blog is now gone, deleted, released and blessed on its journey in its new incarnation.

Now, if you would like to see all the prompts throughout the years that have been posted on Ravens blog, click here and scroll around a bit.  Ravens was initially a daily blog before we decided to turn to weekly.

For this final year, due to technical issues, among other things, I thought it would be nice to add a little bit of something extra.  In this PDF, you will find not only the fifty-two prompts that were released in 2015, but a whole new set of fifty-two prompts that were planned (back in 2014) to be used for 2016.  Since so many areas of focus have shifted, especially with the prompt journey for this year , these prompts were just sitting there quietly and most forlornly in a file…and I did not want to leave them abandoned forever.

So, download for free now, fifty-two prompts from 2015, along with fifty-two never before used prompts to keep you motivated.

New Release: The Mermaid Challenge Has Arrived

The Mermaid Challenge
A Mixed Media and Journaling Program

What began as an idea for a thirty-day free mixed media challenge took on a life of its own and became…something much bigger, something much deeper.
The Mermaid Challenge grew from a thirty to a thirty-one to a forty-five prompt challenge—but it doesn’t stop there. This is a deep rich probing program that offers so much more than just fifty let’s draw a pretty mermaid picture prompts.
Along with the general here’s how to play along section, there are three main sections.
The first section is about the mermaid mythos. There are plenty of inquiries added along with the information in order to help you dig further into the whole concept of mermaids and other such creatures.
The second section holds the fifty prompts about drawing mermaids.
The third section holds forty-five prompts about using different substrates and media to create your pieces.
This is a self-paced program. The PDF is forty-seven pages long, complete with mermaid art and information. You can reach me any time via email if you need help, if you have questions or if you have comments.
The cost for this program is $25 US. Please click here to order this program.

The Wounded Mother Series Update

First of all, I have to admit…I do not have a really good photograph of this canvas–and the canvas is way too big to put on the scanner here.  So, here is what you can see, until I get better pics.  Or rather, get someone to take better pics for me.

Yes, this picture was taken out in the sun, because ‘everyone’ always says take your pics out in the sun for the best light.  Yeah–no.  The reds are all washed out.  The browns are all washed out.  Even the yellows are all washed out.  And that’s just the background.

Anyway–enough grumbling.

This piece hangs near my bed.  If I look that direction upon waking, she is the first thing I see every morning.

She has a very powerful message for me.

I won’t share it.  If she has a message for you, listen.  She has a very clear voice and she loves to share.

I have two other canvases dedicated to this particular project.

I have shown bits and pieces of both on instagram before.

After I finished this painting and hung her up, I put the other two  canvases against the wall, out of the way, for a while.  The act of painting each piece is not all the work that I need to do in this journey with this Archetype.

Sometimes I don’t realize I am doing the work until something hits me just the right way and walls I didn’t know I had begin to crumble.  Until the tears hit.  Until the fears hit.  Until the rage and the impotence hit.

I’ve been having one of those moments with this Archetype all this month.

Things have come up that I hadn’t ever thought of before.  Things I thought I had dealt with, in good and healthy ways, are coming back, demanding I deal with them some more–not again–but differently.

There has been a lot of if I could go back, I wish I would have…going on…

I wish…I wish…I wish…and if wishes were horses, beggars would ride, yes?

So…wishes don’t count for much here…

I have some other work to do before I pick up another brush for this particular series.  But I am still working here, in this space, with this Archetype, getting my butt kicked and my boo boos mended, slowly so slowly.  Time does not heal wounds, but having patience until the scab forms over the wounds does help, a little bit, sometimes.

The Spook-Fest Has Begun…

On October 1, Sisters In The Shadows opened its doors to our annual Halloween Scare-fest full of stories, poems, artwork and whatever else might shiver our timbers…all for free…just come over and visit.

Along those lines, my daughter, who is one of this year’s participants, asked me for ideas to come up with for the artwork she wants to share on Sisters.

Off the top of my head, I threw her out an idea: Spiders…

The spider piece she is working on is really great, but finishing can be an issue with her…and deadlines are her anathema, way worse than they are for me.

However, the next day, she asked for another prompt…so I gave it to her…Owl.

Every day since the first, I have given her a prompt to work with…and you can find these prompts every day on our facebook page here.

I will post completed works — by Evangeline and by myself — as we complete them.  Do we finish one piece a day?  Uhm, not so far.

I will pull together a little something with all the prompts, just a list, for you to download.  This weekend was one of those whirlwind weekends where I never quite felt as if my feet were touching the ground we were moving so much and so fast.  Which means–I have a lot of catching up to do today.

I’ll get there–just hang on.  🙂

Here’s the pdf, if you are interested.

For Sale: Halloween 2014 Vignettes

Last year, I wrote thirty-one little pieces of goody-ness for the Halloween-fest on the Sisters In The Shadows blog.

You can find a few of those tales here, for free, in a downloadable PDF.  This is all of last year’s offerings from all our participants. You will also find 2013 there as well.

I am offering up here the entire collection…which for some reason is twenty-one vignettes.  Somewhere between here and there — from one laptop in its death throes to a new laptop and OS I would gladly strangle with my bare hands…ten stories vanished, into the mists of … cyber space, apparently.

So…here is the whole of my 21 tales of terror.

$5, no shipping

You will receive your downloadable PDF within 24 hours, barring any emergency.

Fun Play

This is just a fun piece.

I took one of our postcards and mounted it to a spare piece of wood panel that I had lying around.

Don’t ask what possessed me to do this.

The board was an odd size, compared to other pieces, but that usually doesn’t mean a thing…

I covered the board itself with collage papers glued down with a mix of joint compound and gel medium.

Then I used that to adhere the postcard to the center of the piece.

I let that dry overnight.

Then I added blue paint along the edges.  Green paint along the edges.  Payne’s grey along the edges.

And I liked it…
