So much shifted for us in the short time of October this year. This is the final year you will find as us Sisters In The Shadows. As of November, we have chosen to take the mantle of: The Sisters of Wyrd.
Halfway through the month, due to personal family issues, part of our creative team had to bow out of this year’s festivities…and yet, we carried on.
Here is your free PDF of all that went on. Enjoy.
Remember to come back next year…we will not stop this Frightfest any time soon.

Long have I loved the Masque Of The Red Death…and this is where the impetus for this piece came from…even though I didn’t realize that until after I finished and stepped away from it.
This was an easy piece. I had a lot of fun doing it, more than I would have thought.
The focal point, our skeletal lady in her finery best, is an image from Ephemera’s Garden, one of her freebies. The background is a simple napkin. I used charcoal (white and black) and a variety of colored pencils (clear gesso and colored pencils are a win scenario for me)…and voila…
When I stepped back to see what she wanted to say, the words I scribbled down were exactly what I heard.
The words needed no embellishment–as scrawly as they came out.
I love her, right down to the moldy old flowers in her bustle.
And don’t forget…the Veils this Night, They are a’thinnin’…
Beware. Beware. (Voice from the film Labyrinth here.)
Happy Hallow’s Eve.
First, we have our Sisters In The Shadows update…
Evangeline even has something scheduled this week. (Tomorrow, in fact, if you care to go look…)
As for me, I did not investigate the “I’m Not Alice.” theme in this year’s Halloween fest–because the more I thought about it, and the more I tried to write–the more I started to outline, the more it wanted to become something more…so the I’m Not Alice project is this year’s NaNoWriMo escapade for me.
But I have been showing up this year regardless of any planned theme…apparently, my Muse has a theme of her own…

And so long as we are doing the Halloween-y updatin’ here…
We have also been posting a random Halloween prompt every day up on our Beck Low Curiosities facebook page here, if you want to play along.
On October 1, Sisters In The Shadows opened its doors to our annual Halloween Scare-fest full of stories, poems, artwork and whatever else might shiver our timbers…all for free…just come over and visit.
Along those lines, my daughter, who is one of this year’s participants, asked me for ideas to come up with for the artwork she wants to share on Sisters.
Off the top of my head, I threw her out an idea: Spiders…
The spider piece she is working on is really great, but finishing can be an issue with her…and deadlines are her anathema, way worse than they are for me.
However, the next day, she asked for another prompt…so I gave it to her…Owl.
Every day since the first, I have given her a prompt to work with…and you can find these prompts every day on our facebook page here.
I will post completed works — by Evangeline and by myself — as we complete them. Do we finish one piece a day? Uhm, not so far.
I will pull together a little something with all the prompts, just a list, for you to download. This weekend was one of those whirlwind weekends where I never quite felt as if my feet were touching the ground we were moving so much and so fast. Which means–I have a lot of catching up to do today.
I’ll get there–just hang on. 🙂
Here’s the pdf, if you are interested.
