Finally…Summer Solstice Spread Revealed…

So—I am a bit behind in posting around here…I had planned to post my Summer Solstice spread, you know, the day after Summer Solstice…I tend to schedule posts out for a couple of weeks, leaving space for holidays and things that may come up…and when it came time to sit and write … I … didn’t…
Sometimes Life happens…and around here, Life…or the avoidance of it…happens…a lot…
This is my Summer Solstice spread:

I am allowing myself to stop working in my comfort zone; I am learning to allow what wants to happen happen, in a more open and genuinely …just let it flow kind of way…and this is SO not my comfort zone…
This spread…that’s how it happened…
I seriously had no clue where it was going or how it was going to get there…and in fact, I kept having different ideas in mind…until I sprayed it with a fixative and prepared to seal it (Dorland’s wax is my new best friend …)
The first thing I did, in a multitude of colors and mark making tools (charcoal, kids markers, water-color pencils), I wrote out my intentions…and then I sprayed it with water and smooshed that about a bit.
I covered that, while wet, with a light layer of gesso…and sprayed it with some inks…and then…walked away from it…
I listened…and what I heard…really made my head hurt, because I do not work on just one piece at a time…I work on many…and I was in the middle of working through Hali Karla’s free (and so wonderful) Seven Directions program…well at the same time, working through … Hali Karla’s offering for Spectrum 2015, Calling On The Grandmothers (more on this workshop later…) … while working on what has turned into a series of Manifestation portrait canvases (again, another post on this is coming…the last canvas is not yet complete…) … on top of…you get the picture… yada yada yada there…
I walked in, where my journal was laid out on the table, with some paint and supplies lying around waiting to be used…and I drew … a box…is it a window? Is it a door? Is it a mirror? Yes…
Right now, faces are my thing…so it wasn’t too difficult to find the face waiting to be brought forth…
The tree is a bit … different… even though I love trees and trees…they are a part of my thing, yes…this one…just appeared and kept talking…
And once it decided it was done…the piece was done…
I sprayed it with a workable fixative…and let that dry—and then buffed the whole thing with a light layer of Dorland’s wax (yay—pages don’t stick anymore…) … and there we go…

Newsletter Update

You would think that with the family website and with my own website, I would want to create a newsletter to help draw people in and keep them up to date about what is going on where and with whom in the grand scheme of things.

Nope.

When we release something or do something cool over on the family site, I will more than likely say something about it here.

Ditto for when something happens on my own website–or when Evangeline does something cool on her blog.

You are encouraged (and ever so much appreciated) to follow this blog and Evangeline’s blog, but it is not a requirement.

We do have a facebook page for the family business so you can like us and follow all of us there.

This is just to let you know…as of right now, I have completely let go of the need for newsletters.

Both Evangeline and I (at this time) prefer to focus on our blogs and on our own work, rather than shifting focus, sending out missives, though we love them, that take us away from our real work and our true purposes.

We hope you continue to follow along.

Art Journal Peek

I pulled out an old partially used art journal weeks ago and have been working in it ever since.

There is plenty of blank space to use–but I find myself returning to the old work in this journal and reworking it–or working over it…

Not every single page…but quite a few.

This is one of those pages where I just worked over everything.
